Odisha ganja seizure Nasha Mukta Abhiyan

In a spectacular show of strength, Odisha Police have struck a massive blow against the narcotics mafia under the ongoing “Nasha Mukta Odisha Abhiyan”.

In just a few days, officers seized more than 23 metric tonnes of ganja worth over Rs 22 crore, dismantled smuggling networks, and arrested multiple accused while destroying illicit liquor dens.

The biggest haul came from Gajapati district, where R.Udayagiri and Adaba police conducted 21 relentless raids in remote villages of Kirama, Sambalpur, Keshariguda, and Raipanka panchayats. They recovered a staggering 21 metric tonnes of high-quality ganja — enough to flood the streets of multiple states. The street value? A jaw-dropping Rs 21 crore. Seven accused have been arrested so far, while 10–12 more remain absconding. Three vehicles used in the smuggling racket were also confiscated.

Just 150 kilometres away in Bargarh district, Jharsuguda police turned a routine night patrol into a major victory. On May 5, officers stopped and searched a suspicious truck in the Paikamal area and recovered 1,914 kg of ganja. Five traffickers were arrested on the spot, three more vehicles seized, and further investigation is underway to nab the kingpins behind the consignment.

In Subarnapur district, Ulunda police acted on specific intelligence and raided a ganja-and-country-liquor syndicate in Guja village. They seized 158.5 kg of ganja (valued at Rs 15.85 lakh), 200 litres of ready-to-sell mahuli liquor, and destroyed another 5,000 litres of fermenting mahuli mash — effectively wiping out an entire illegal distillery operation in one swift strike.

Speaking after the operations, Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania reiterated the force’s iron-clad commitment:

“We are following a policy of zero tolerance against drug trafficking and substance abuse. Under the Nisha Mukta Odisha Abhiyan, we will continue to hit the syndicate hard at the grassroots level. These seizures prove that no corner of the state is safe for drug peddlers anymore.”

With coordinated intelligence-led raids, vehicle checks, and village-level awareness drives now running across all districts, Odisha Police have sent a clear message: the era of unchecked ganja cultivation and smuggling is over. The campaign, which aims to make Odisha completely drug-free, has gained unstoppable momentum — and the cartels are feeling the heat.

The fight continues. Stay tuned as Odisha writes a new chapter in India’s war on drugs.
