A tragic incident has shaken Mahakhand village under Turekela police limits in Bolangir district, where a 19-year-old girl reportedly died by suicide late last night.
According to sources, Sunita Majhi, daughter of Krishna Majhi, was found hanging inside her home using a scarf. Family members discovered her body and immediately informed the local police.
Turekela police reached the scene, seized the body, and transported it to Kantabanji Health Center for post-mortem examination. Station Officer Rakesh Behera confirmed that the body was handed over to the family after the autopsy.
Investigating Officer Panchananda Khuas registered a case (9/2025) and stated that a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the cause behind the suicide.
The incident has raised concerns in the community, prompting calls for mental health awareness and support systems for vulnerable youth.
