Minister of School and Mass Education Nityananda Gond informed the Assembly that 1763 classrooms in primary schools across Odisha are in a dilapidated condition and require urgent attention.
District-Wise Breakdown
Sambalpur tops the list with 175 dilapidated classrooms, followed by Mayurbhanj (122), Sonepur (107), Cuttack (104), Kalahandi (101), Ganjam (100), Balasore (95), Keonjhar (94), and Kendrapara (90). Other districts also reported significant numbers, including Angul (71), Nuapada (75), Balangir (83), and Puri (64).
Responsibility for Repairs
The Housing and Urban Development Department will handle reconstruction and maintenance in urban areas, while the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department will oversee rural schools. The Minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts to ensure safe learning environments for children.
