India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has rewritten history books, becoming the world record-holder for the most sixes in Youth ODIs — achieving the feat in just 10 innings.
The 14-year-old left-hander from Bihat struck his 39th career six during the second Youth ODI against Australia U19 at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane, surpassing Unmukt Chand’s record of 38 sixes, which had stood for over a decade.
Suryavanshi played a mature innings, scoring 70 off 68 balls with five fours and six sixes. He took his time early on — 20 runs off 38 balls in the first 10 overs — before shifting gears after the powerplay. Hayden Schiller and John James faced the brunt of his aggressive hitting, with Suryavanshi unleashing signature pull shots and a towering straight six that sealed his entry into the record books.
Despite being dismissed shortly after reaching his maiden Youth ODI fifty on Australian soil, Suryavanshi’s milestone innings powered India to 300 in 49.4 overs. Yash Deshmukh (70 off 74) and Abhigyan Kundu (71 off 64) provided valuable support in what turned out to be another high-scoring encounter.
Suryavanshi’s record is particularly remarkable given that Chand took 21 innings to hit 38 sixes, while the 14-year-old achieved the feat in less than half the time — underlining his meteoric rise as one of India’s most promising young stars.
