A suspected terrorist attack in the scenic Baisaran area of Pahalgam left at least 12 tourists injured on Monday, triggering panic and swift action by security forces.
According to eyewitness accounts, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists from close range. A woman survivor told PTI, “My husband was shot in the head, and seven others were also injured.”
The remote location, reachable only by foot or horseback, posed challenges for quick medical aid and evacuation.
Gunshots were heard shortly before security personnel rushed to the spot. An anti-terror operation is currently underway, with the area cordoned off.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identity or affiliation of the attackers. A high alert has been issued across the region, with increased patrolling in nearby tourist zones.
