In honour of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister of India, and to mark Good Governance Day, a state-level poetry recitation program titled “Pujya Atal Shatabdir Shatakala” was organised today by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with the Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Department.
The event took place at Sanskruti Bhavan, where over 100 poets from across the state gathered to pay poetic tribute to the legendary statesman, reflecting on his life, ideals, and literary contributions.
Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj attended the event as the Chief Guest. He paid floral tribute to a portrait of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and expressed his admiration for Vajpayee’s enduring legacy.
In his address to the attendees, the Minister stated that Atal Bihari Vajpayee embodied dedication and that his literary consciousness continues to inspire and delight generations. He emphasised that Vajpayee’s poetry and writings reflect profound philosophical thought and courage, making his character exemplary for all.
“The immortal ideals and values of Atalji remain relevant even today. His thoughts, words, and creative expressions reveal a rare blend of sensitivity and fearlessness. His life and vision should motivate the younger generation to contribute to building a strong and prosperous nation,” said Minister Suraj.
Notable attendees included Haraprasad Das, a prominent litterateur; Dr Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya, Secretary of the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department; and Dr Chandra Sekhar Hota, Secretary of the Odisha Sahitya Akademi.
