New Delhi: Zomato announced the introduction of ‘District,’ a new application that consolidates its “going-out” business, including dining and ticketing for movies and events.
This strategic move, revealed by CEO Deepinder Goyal in a shareholder letter, signifies Zomato’s foray into a wider spectrum of lifestyle services, which includes dining out, movies, sports ticketing, live performances, shopping, staycations, and more, all integrated into one platform.
“Currently, Zomato and Blinkit represent our two major consumer businesses, catering to customers’ in-home needs. Yet, we also boast one of India’s largest ‘going-out’ businesses, aiding our customers in discovering dining-out venues,” stated Goyal, without specifying when the app would be ready for download.
Zomato’s “going-out” business merges the dining-out vertical, active in India and the UAE, with the ticketing vertical, Zomato Live.
For the June quarter, this segment’s gross order value surged by 105 per cent to Rs 1,268 crore year-on-year, and its adjusted revenue more than doubled to Rs 95 crore. The profitability (adjusted EBITDA) for the quarter soared by 233 per cent to Rs 10 crore.
