Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a detailed phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, briefing him on the latest Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities, including a targeted bombing at a bus station in Zaporizhzhia that left dozens injured.
Zelenskyy emphasised the urgency of diplomatic intervention, stating that while there is a window for peace, Russia continues to escalate violence. He expressed gratitude for India’s consistent support and stressed that any resolution must involve Ukraine directly.
The leaders also discussed sanctions against Russia, particularly the need to curb its energy exports to weaken its war machinery. Zelenskyy urged global leaders with influence over Moscow to send strong signals advocating for peace.
Both leaders agreed to meet in person during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September and explore mutual visits to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
