Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has publicly apologised to cricket legends MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev for the controversial remarks made by his father, Yograj Singh, over the years.
The statement comes ahead of the release of a new podcast in which Yuvraj addresses long-standing issues and reflects on his cricketing journey.
Yuvraj Calls for Respect and Accountability
In a teaser clip released by Sports Tak, Yuvraj said:
“I would like to apologise to Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.”
He also revealed that he has spoken to his father about the impact of his statements, making it clear that such remarks are not appropriate.
“I have told dad that it’s not okay,” Yuvraj added.
Background of the Controversy
For years, Yograj Singh has made strong allegations against MS Dhoni, often blaming him for Yuvraj’s exclusion from the Indian team. He has also criticised Kapil Dev, accusing him of negatively affecting his own playing career decades ago.
One of Yograj’s most controversial claims included confronting Kapil Dev in the past, which drew widespread criticism within the cricketing community.
Clarification on Yuvraj’s Exit from Team India
The narrative around Yuvraj’s exit from international cricket has been addressed previously by former selector Sandeep Patil. He clarified that the decision was based on team strategy and performance considerations—not on any individual player’s influence.
Yuvraj himself has earlier acknowledged that MS Dhoni had provided him with clarity about his role in the team during his final comeback phase in 2017. This transparency helped him make an informed decision before announcing his retirement in 2019.
A Personal and Professional Reflection
Yuvraj’s upcoming podcast is expected to cover a wide range of topics, including insights on current Indian players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and emerging talents.
The apology marks a significant moment, as Yuvraj distances himself from past controversies and reinforces the importance of respect within the cricketing fraternity.
Yuvraj Singh’s statement reflects maturity and accountability, aiming to close a chapter of controversy that has lingered for years. By addressing the issue directly, he has taken a step toward maintaining dignity and unity within Indian cricket.
