In a significant move to combat online harassment, the Infocity Police Station has arrested Youtuber Saroj Kumar Mishra, also known as Tapi, for allegedly targeting and abusing Ms Banasmita Pati, a respected Odia author.
The incident occurred on March 17, 2025, when Ms. Pati commented on a Facebook post condemning a controversial statement by the self-proclaimed Odia actor. Following her comment, the accused used obscene language to harass her publicly.
Ms Pati promptly reported the matter to the Infocity Police Station, leading to the registration of Case No. 104/2025. The police traced the offensive Facebook comments and verified their nature, which aimed to sexually harass and tarnish the author’s reputation.
The accused has been forwarded to the Hon’ble Court for judicial proceedings, and further investigation is underway, the police said.
