Khurda: A youth was brutally thrashed by an angry mob at Nuasahi village under Balipatna police station limits in Khurda district today over suspicion of being a child lifter.
The victim has been identified as Sarat Behera (24), son of Kishore Behera, from Sarakana village under Balianta police station.
Reportedly, the incident took place when the youth had gone to collect funds for the construction of a temple. Later, he asked a minor boy, Deepak (9) about Derasahi Road.
Deepak accompanied Sarat to show the way. In the meantime, the other children playing with him suddenly shouted at him as a child lifter.
After hearing the children’s scream, some villagers chased the victim and overpowered him. Suspecting him as a child lifter, the locals thrashed him black and blue and locked him in a room.
On receiving information, Balipatna police reached the spot along with a team and rescued the victim.
