Bhawanipatna Additional District Judge-cum-Special Judge Vigilance sentenced Uttam Majhi of Karmata village to eight years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for a fatal attack case.

The incident occurred when Uttam Majhi entered the house of a youth from Kundabandh village and attacked him with a sharp weapon, leaving him severely injured. Following the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Sadanand Majhi, police registered Case No. 146/23 and began an investigation.

Police arrested Uttam Majhi and charged him under IPC Sections 294, 452, 323, 324, 326, 307, and 506. Then-Sub Inspector Loris Pradhan submitted the investigation report to the court.

The judge delivered the verdict after reviewing the evidence. Uttam Majhi received five years in jail with a fine of ₹10,000 under one section and three years in jail with another ₹10,000 fine under another section. The sentences were combined into eight years of imprisonment with a total fine of ₹20,000.

The court ruled that if the convict fails to pay the fine, he will serve an additional one-year jail term.
