A violent group clash during Ganesh Visarjan celebrations in Odisha’s Ganjam district turned fatal as a youth was allegedly hacked to death in Aska late Friday night.
The victim, identified as Chandan Bisoi, was residing in a rented house in Kankarada village. The incident occurred at midnight in Seragada village when two rival groups—one reportedly led by the local sarpanch—engaged in a heated confrontation during the immersion procession.
According to sources, around 20–25 youths arrived in cars and confronted the sarpanch outside his residence. The altercation escalated rapidly, resulting in a bloody scuffle where Bisoi was attacked with sharp weapons including a knife and iron rod.
Locals discovered Bisoi’s blood-soaked body the following morning and alerted the police. Authorities have seized the weapons used in the attack and registered a case. The motive behind the clash remains unclear, though villagers claim there was a history of enmity between the two groups.
Police have launched a full-scale investigation and are awaiting postmortem results to determine the exact cause of death.
