A young man sustained severe injuries, including the loss of fingers on his hand and deep facial wounds, after a crude bomb exploded in his hand in the heart of the capital city.

The incident occurred in front of the BMC (Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation) office in the Old Bhubaneswar area near Kalpana Chhak, under the jurisdiction of Badagada police station.

According to police sources, the explosion took place between 8 PM and 9 PM on Wednesday evening. The mishap stemmed from a long-standing rivalry between two groups. The groups had gathered to resolve their dispute when one youth arrived carrying a bomb. Tensions escalated during the confrontation, and due to carelessness, the bomb slipped from the youth’s hand and detonated.

The blast caused grievous injuries to the youth’s hand—resulting in his fingers being blown off—and inflicted deep lacerations on his face. He was rushed to Capital Hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.

Following the incident, police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend members of both groups involved, with assistance from nearby CCTV footage.

This alarming event has once again raised serious concerns about law and order in the capital city. Similar unsavory incidents in the past have instilled fear among residents. DCP Jag Mohan Meena has assured that the police are treating the matter with utmost seriousness and will take strict action to prevent such occurrences in the future.
