Police recovered the body of a youth from Room No. 502 of Hotel Suraj in Balasore district. The deceased was identified as Akash Mohanty of Jamuni under the Betanati police limits.
Earlier, Akash had come to Balasore on December 25 with Ramchandra Singh of the same area. Both stayed in the hotel room along with a woman. Akash allegedly used his wife’s Aadhaar card to register another woman at the hotel.
Meanwhile, family members grew suspicious when Akash’s mobile phone remained switched off, and he did not return home. They confronted Ramchandra, who claimed Akash had gone out on a bike. Later, when the hotel room did not open, the police were informed. Officers broke open the door and recovered Akash’s body.
Subsequently, relatives alleged that Akash was murdered and named Ramchandra as the prime suspect. Sahadevkhunta police registered case number 505/25 and launched an investigation. Based on CCTV footage, police detained Ratnakar for questioning. Efforts are underway to trace the woman who was present in the room.
Additionally, police found liquor bottles inside the room and noticed blood on Akash’s face, strengthening suspicions of foul play. Now, investigators are probing why Akash was brought from Betanati to Balasore and how the circumstances led to his death.
