A 1.5 to 2-year-old elephant calf was found dead inside the Kansar Reserve Forest near Jagadala village in Odisha’s Deogarh district on Monday, prompting an immediate response from the local forest department.
The Range Officer of Deogarh received information about the incident at approximately 12:30 pm on January 20, 2026. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Miss Rashmi G., along with Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Smt. Swadhinata Sahani (Administration), Arun Kumar Behera (Enforcement), Range Officer Dipti Ranjan Biswal, and the entire forest staff and squad of Deogarh Range rushed to the spot.
Upon reaching the location in the Kansar Section of Deogarh Range, the team conducted a preliminary investigation. Officials stated that the death appears to be due to natural causes, with no immediate signs of poaching, electrocution, or human-wildlife conflict.
Further updates are expected following the completion of the postmortem report.
