Odisha Government Allocates Significant Budget to Food Security Measures

In its 2025-2026 fiscal budget, the Odisha Government has taken a bold step toward ensuring food security for its citizens by allocating an impressive ₹35,537.76 crore to the Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare.

This funding will be directed towards initiatives such as rice fortification, timely procurement of paddy, and ensuring distribution efficiency through automated systems.

The government has also announced an enhanced MSP (Minimum Support Price) for paddy, marking a pivotal move to uplift the agricultural community. In addition, significant strides in e-KYC integration, fortified rice distribution under PM-POSHAN, and modernized storage facilities are anticipated to streamline food distribution networks in the state.

Notable measures, such as combating malpractices in essential commodity trade and the “One Nation, One Ration Card” scheme, are expected to make food accessible to citizens across state borders.

Along with the above, a revolutionary focus on sustainability is visible with initiatives involving private entrepreneurship under the guarantee scheme.

With these efforts, Odisha aims to set a benchmark in ensuring food equity and security, contributing significantly to the nation’s overall well-being.
