Meanwhile, Barcelona matched Chelsea’s scoreline with a commanding 4-0 win over Roma. Esmee Brugts opened the scoring in the second minute. Lyon, the record eight-time champion, continued its winning tradition by defeating Austria’s St Polten 3-0. Jule Brand and Lily Yohannes celebrated their first goals for the French side. Ada Hegerberg, the all-time UEFA club competition top scorer, extended her record with her 67th goal.
Wolfsburg battled past Valerenga 2-1. Lineth Beerensteyn struck early for the Germans, but Sara Horte equalized. Janina Minge kept her composure and converted a penalty in extra time to seal the win.
Leuven delivered late drama against Twente. After Linde Veefkind’s 83rd-minute penalty leveled the score, Sara Pusztai fired in the winner six minutes into injury time, securing a 2-1 comeback victory.
This season introduces a new format in the Women’s Champions League. Eighteen teams compete in a league phase, each playing six matches. The top four teams qualify directly for the quarterfinals, while those ranked fifth to twelfth enter a play-off round to claim the remaining spots.
