Phulbani: A woman Maoist cadre died during an encounter with security forces in Sudra forest of Baliguda in Kandhamal district on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the SOG and DVF jawans initiated a combing operation in the Baliguda forest of Kandhamal.
During the combing operation, Maoists hiding in the forest opened fire on the security forces and the exchange of bullets continued for hours.
Unable to withstand the heavy firing by the security personnel, the red rebels fell back.
Later, police recovered the body of a woman maoist cadre killed during the encounter. However, the identity of the dead woman militant was yet to be ascertained.
