A woman was killed while her husband sustained critical injuries after a speeding truck violated traffic signals and collided with the bike they were riding at Ekta Chhak in Nuapada district on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Rukmani Sahu, and her injured husband is Chhabilal Sahu.
The couple, residents of Rengabahali village under Komna police station, were travelling towards Khariar Road when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck hit the bike from behind, causing Rukmini to be thrown off. Tragically, the truck ran over her head, leading to her instant death. Chhabilal was severely injured and was rushed to the district headquarters hospital for urgent medical care.
Local police, led by IIC Gangadhar Meher, arrived at the scene promptly, recovering Chhabilal and sending Rukmani’s body for post-mortem. Authorities have assured that after the autopsy, the body will be handed over to the grieving family.
This incident underscores the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent such devastating accidents.
