A tragic road accident claimed one life and left three critically injured on November 4 near Palur Chhak along National Highway 16 under Rambha police limits in Ganjam district.
A passenger auto traveling from Khallikote to Chhatrapur slammed into a stationary truck parked on the roadside. The collision crushed the front of the auto, instantly killing 52-year-old Ranju Behera, who was traveling with her husband for medical treatment.
Kailash Behera, aged 61, and their 13-year-old son, Shankar Behera, suffered serious injuries. Auto driver Balmiki Pahan also sustained critical wounds. Emergency responders quickly transported all three to MKCG Medical College in Berhampur for treatment.
The accident scene drew immediate attention from locals and passing commuters. Many expressed concern over the dangers posed by vehicles parked improperly on busy highways. Witnesses described the crash as sudden and violent, noting that the auto had little room or visibility to avoid the truck.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation to determine the cause and identify any negligence. Authorities plan to review traffic protocols and enforcement measures in the area to prevent similar tragedies.
This fatal crash has reignited public demand for stricter parking regulations and improved highway safety. Residents and road safety advocates are urging officials to take swift action to ensure safer travel conditions on NH-16.
