A disturbing incident emerged in Goudagaon village under Kaptipada police station when a woman alleged that her estranged husband attempted to kill her by setting fire to her house.
Shraddhanjali Barik, who has been living separately from her husband, Mrutyunjay Barik, due to family disputes, returned to her parental home for a purification ritual. Soon afterwards, she received information that her house had caught fire.
When she reached the spot, she discovered that someone had broken the window of her bedroom and poured petrol inside before igniting the blaze. Fire service personnel quickly arrived and controlled the fire before it spread further.
Shraddhanjali accused her husband and father-in-law, Shyam Sundar Barik, of deliberately setting the fire to kill her. Moreover, she claimed that her in-laws had threatened to end her life on several occasions in the past.
Police registered her complaint and immediately began investigating the allegations. In addition, officials confirmed that the fire was contained and no casualties occurred.
