A SpiceJet Bombardier Q400 aircraft flying from Kandla to Mumbai experienced a serious technical snag on Friday when one of its outer wheels detached during takeoff.
The incident occurred at Kandla Airport, and the dislodged wheel was later found on the runway.
Despite the alarming situation, the aircraft, carrying 75 passengers, continued its journey and landed safely in Mumbai, where a full emergency was declared. The plane taxied to the terminal under its own power, and all passengers disembarked without injury.
Aviation authorities have launched an investigation into the mechanical failure, and SpiceJet is expected to submit a detailed report. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) may also initiate a safety audit of the airline’s fleet.
The incident has reignited concerns over aircraft maintenance and operational safety, especially for regional carriers operating short-haul routes. Passengers praised the crew for their calm handling of the situation.
