New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully extradited a terrorist linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), accused of funding and arming militant modules based in Bengaluru from Rwanda, Africa.
They reported that the extradition of Salman Rehman Khan was executed as part of a highly confidential operation by the CBI’s Global Operations Centre, in partnership with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Interpol National Central Bureau in Kigali.
Khan is accused of involvement in criminal conspiracy, membership in a terrorist organisation, and providing material support to the Pakistan-based LeT.
The NIA registered a case in 2023 against him under the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and various provisions related to terrorism.
He is alleged to have facilitated the supply of arms, ammunition, and explosives for terrorist activities in Bengaluru.
The case began with the Bengaluru City Police after a significant arms seizure at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. In a raid conducted the previous year, officials found seven pistols, four hand grenades, a magazine, 45 live rounds, and four walkie-talkies.
Subsequent investigations uncovered that these weapons were linked to a broader network with the intent of disseminating radical ideology and aiding LeT operations.
On October 25, 2023, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) assumed control of the case and pinpointed Khan as a key operative in charge of arranging the transport of weapons, ammunition, and financial resources to terror cells in Bengaluru.
The case accelerated when Interpol, responding to a request from the CBI, issued a Red Notice on August 2 this year.
Acting on intelligence, he was located in Rwanda. An NIA security team then extradited him to India for trial.
This individual is the third wanted criminal the CBI has extradited this month.
Barkat Ali Khan, implicated in a rioting and explosives case in Mumbai, was extradited from Saudi Arabia on November 14. A Red Notice had been issued for him by the CBI in December 2022.
Similarly, Raihan Arabikkalalarikkal, charged with the rape of a minor in Kerala, was found in Saudi Arabia. He was extradited on November 10, pursuant to a Red Notice issued in December 2023.
Since 2021, the CBI has successfully coordinated the extradition of 100 fugitives, with 26 occurring in 2024 alone, through Interpol channels.
