A tragic incident struck Komabandh village under Bakadabeda panchayat in Nabarangpur district when an abandoned house wall collapsed on three young girls.
The children were playing happily near the verandah on Thursday afternoon when the wall suddenly gave way.
Four-year-old Yamuna lost her life in the accident. The other two girls, Damayanti and Jyoti, sustained serious injuries. Damayanti suffered a fractured leg, while Jyoti remains under medical care. Both were rushed to Umerkote Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment.
Witnesses said the girls were holding hands and running along the village road before sitting near the verandah of the deserted house. The sudden collapse shocked the community, leaving the children trapped under debris. Villagers quickly alerted authorities and helped rescue the injured.
The heartbreaking incident has left the village in grief. Parents and neighbours expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Yamuna and concern for the recovery of the injured children. The accident highlights the dangers posed by neglected and abandoned structures in rural areas.
