A shocking incident has rocked the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) campus after the mutilated body of final-year Mechanical Engineering student Anjaneya Das was recovered from beneath the PC Bridge in Burla, Sambalpur.
Initially suspected to be a case of suicide, the narrative shifted after the student’s uncle, Pritesh Mohanty, filed a formal complaint alleging foul play. Acting on the complaint, police registered a murder case and launched a multi-team investigation. A forensic team visited the site, and three separate police teams have been formed to probe the matter, including one dispatched outside Odisha.
Sources indicate that Anjaneya had been missing from his hostel since the previous day. Late at night, a young woman from Uttar Pradesh reportedly informed his friends about his body lying under the bridge. The friends then alerted the police, who recovered the body and rushed him to the medical college, where doctors declared him dead.
The incident has sparked unrest on campus, with students demanding clarity and justice. Police have stated that the exact cause of death—whether murder or suicide—will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received.
