In a historic moment for cricket, Indian superstar Virat Kohli surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest batter in ODI history to score 14,000 runs.
Kohli achieved this remarkable feat during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Kohli is no stranger to records. In the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup, he set the record for most runs in a single edition with 765 runs from 11 matches, including three hundreds and six half-centuries. During the same tournament, he became the first player with 50 centuries in the format, surpassing former India captain Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli, who needed just 15 runs to reach the milestone, made history with a boundary off Haris Rauf, achieving the milestone in just 287 innings. This surpasses Tendulkar’s record of 350 innings and makes Kohli the first batter to reach the mark in under 300 innings.
Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara, who took 378 innings to reach 14,000 ODI runs, is the only other player to have achieved this landmark.
The match, held at the Dubai International Stadium, saw Pakistan setting a target of 241 runs. Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (46) made significant contributions to Pakistan’s total, while Khushdil Shah’s late cameo of 38 boosted the score. Indian bowler Kuldeep Yadav took 3 wickets for 40 runs.
India successfully chased down the target, winning by 6 wickets. This victory not only marked Kohli’s record-breaking achievement but also bolstered India’s chances in the tournament.
Kohli’s latest feat further cements his legacy as one of the greatest batters in cricket history.
