Tension gripped Gujuri Bazaar Square under Sadar police limits in Balasore district today after a violent clash broke out between two groups of youths.
The incident occurred between 10:30 and 11 AM, leaving several injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that youths armed with sticks and stones attacked each other near the busy marketplace. The confrontation is suspected to have stemmed from previous enmity and financial disputes.
Among the injured was Dilip Mahalik of Totapada, who was rushed to Balasore hospital for treatment. Another youth from the rival group was admitted to Remuna Medical College after sustaining injuries.
The sudden outbreak of violence created panic among shopkeepers and residents in the area. Many closed their shops and fled as stone-pelting and scuffles continued for several minutes.
Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. However, officials have not yet released details about the number of injured or arrests made.
