Tennis icon Venus Williams has been granted a wild-card main draw entry into the upcoming Cincinnati Open, marking another milestone in her awe-inspiring return to competitive tennis.
At 45, Williams recently etched her name into the record books by becoming the oldest player to win WTA singles match since 2004. Her victory over world No. 35 Peyton Stearns at the Washington Open signalled a stunning comeback after a 16-month hiatus from the sport.
The Cincinnati Open, beginning August 7, will host Williams as she continues her age-defying journey on the court. She is set to face Polish fifth seed Magdalena Frech next in Washington, with fans eagerly awaiting her performance.
Earlier this year, Williams had declined a wild-card entry for Indian Wells, choosing instead a more measured return to the tour. Now, with Cincinnati opening its gates, her presence promises renewed excitement in the WTA circuit.
In addition to Williams, hometown favourite Caty McNally has also been extended a wild card, adding further buzz to the tournament lineup.
The former World No. 1 and seven-time Grand Slam singles champion’s return underscores resilience and enduring passion—a story that continues to captivate tennis fans worldwide.
