Odisha Crime Branch uncovered a major SI exam scam, detaining 114 candidates, with DSP Narendra Behera confirming links to Vanik Coaching Centre among those arrested.
During the raid, DSP Behera stated that Vanik had allegedly sent several candidates to the examination. Investigators are now verifying how many candidates the coaching centre supported and whether it played a direct role in facilitating the fraud.
The scam involved organized efforts to compromise the integrity of the recruitment process. Authorities intercepted buses carrying candidates near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border. Many had reportedly agreed to pay large sums in exchange for leaked question papers and guaranteed selection.
Police seized incriminating documents, mobile phones, and communication records. The investigation revealed that candidates had submitted original certificates and blank cheques to intermediaries. These intermediaries acted on instructions from a larger crime syndicate.
The Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) postponed the examination following the revelations. Officials are now probing the role of private agencies and coaching centres in the scam. Vanik Coaching Centre faces scrutiny as investigators trace its involvement.
The Crime Branch emphasized its commitment to protecting the integrity of public recruitment. Further arrests and disclosures are expected as the investigation progresses.
