The tragic Uttarakhand avalanche claimed six lives as rescue operations continue for two missing labourers in the Chamoli district.
A massive avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp near Mana village in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, burying 54 workers under the snow.
Rescue teams managed to save 46 workers, but, tragically, six workers lost their lives. The search continues for the remaining two missing labourers.
With over 200 personnel from various agencies, including the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, State Disaster Response Force, BRO, and National Disaster Response Force, rescue operations are underway. Advanced technology and aerial support are being used to locate the missing workers.
Due to heavy snowfall and rain, rescue efforts were hampered initially. However, with clear weather on Sunday, the pace of the mission increased. Authorities have deployed advanced drones, Cheetah helicopters, Victim Locating Cameras, Thermal Imaging Cameras, Ground Penetration Radar, and sniffer dogs in the high-intensity search mission. The Badrinath-Joshimath highway has been blocked at multiple locations, making road access difficult and necessitating the use of helicopters for transportation.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have assured full support from central agencies, praising the rescue teams for their swift action. The resilience and determination of the personnel on the ground continue to be a beacon of hope as rescue operations move forward on a war footing.
