Uttarakhand: As many as 10 people were killed and 13 injured as the tempo traveller fell into a deep gorge into Alakananda river on Badrinath Highway in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand on Saturday.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police officials immediately rushed to the spot for rescue operation. Four of the rescued persons who sustained severe injuries and whose condition is said to be critical are undergoing treatment.
The tempo traveller was going towards Rudraprayag from Noida when it fell down to the 150-meter-deep gorge. The number of tourists is yet to be known.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the accident and said injured persons are sent to the nearby hospital and the seriously injured passengers are being airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh.
“The District Magistrate has been ordered to investigate the incident… We are fully committed to provide all possible assistance to the injured”, he said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed grief over the incident and posted on X, “Received the sad news of the road accident in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand. My condolences are with the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. The local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue work and all possible help is being provided to the injured. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured”.

PM Modi has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished speedy recovery of the injured. PM Modi immediately announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 for the injured, said the PMO on X.
