Devika Sihag stunned third seed Riko Gunji to storm into the semifinals of the US Open, marking one of the finest wins of her young career.
The sixth seed from India, fresh off a hard-fought victory over Thailand’s Tonrung Saeheng, entered the clash as the underdog. Gunji, a Swiss Open quarterfinalist, pushed Devika to the brink, but the 21-year-old held her nerve to clinch a 22-20, 21-19 win.
Devika will now face Denmark’s Line Christophersen, the second seed, in her first-ever meeting with the European star on Saturday, June 27.
Meanwhile, Rounak Chouhan continued his dream run. After shocking top seed Chou Tien-chen in the previous round, he defeated Israel’s Misha Zilberman 23-21, 21-11 to book a semifinal clash against Su Li Yang. Rounak’s fearless play and remarkable comebacks have made him one of the standout performers of the tournament.
Kidambi Srikanth also advanced to the semifinals with a 21-9, 12-21, 21-8 win over Liao Jhuo-Fu. He will face fourth seed Yudai Okimoto next.
