Security forces thwarted yet another infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir, neutralising two terrorists in the Gurez sector of Bandipora district.
The joint operation was carried out by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police (JKP) following specific intelligence inputs.
According to the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, troops deployed in the high-altitude Gurez sector detected suspicious movement close to the LoC late on Wednesday. On being challenged, the infiltrators opened indiscriminate fire. The troops retaliated swiftly and effectively, killing two terrorists on the spot.
The Army confirmed that the action was initiated based on credible intelligence provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police about a likely infiltration attempt.
“Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in Gurez Sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Operation is in progress,” the Chinar Corps posted on X.
This incident is the latest in a series of infiltration bids foiled by security forces along the LoC in recent weeks:
August 13, Uri Sector: A soldier was killed in action during a fierce exchange of fire as troops stopped an infiltration attempt in the Churunda area of Uri, Baramulla district.
July 30, Poonch Sector: Two heavily armed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were gunned down under ‘Operation ShivShakti’, a coordinated counter-terrorism mission based on joint intelligence inputs.
April 22, Pahalgam Attack Follow-up: Security forces eliminated three hardcore terrorists linked to the deadly April Pahalgam attack during an encounter in Srinagar forests.
The Army said these successful counter-infiltration operations represent a major blow to Pakistan-backed terror outfits that continue to push armed militants into Jammu and Kashmir to destabilise peace.
A defence spokesperson earlier highlighted that these coordinated actions demonstrate seamless intelligence sharing and effective coordination between the Army and JKP, which is critical in foiling such cross-border terror attempts.
