Bhubaneswar witnessed two shocking murder cases on March 15, 2025, leaving the city in disbelief. The incidents, which occurred in separate locations, have raised concerns about public safety and the influence of criminal elements.
Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena briefed reporters, stating that there were no major motives or prior enmity in the two murder cases. He explained that the incidents occurred after altercations during Holi celebrations.
In the first case, a verbal altercation escalated into violence near Punjab National Bank in the Mancheswar Industrial Area. Ayushman Pati, a 30-year-old resident of Sameigadia, succumbed to fatal stab wounds inflicted by Milu alias Tanmay Behera.
The accused, along with his accomplices, Lulu alias Padmanav Behera, Bulu alias Prashant Behera, and Samir Kumar Swain, attempted to evade arrest. However, the police acted swiftly, apprehending all four individuals.
The prime accused, Tanmay, who had ingested poison in an attempt to escape justice, was rescued and treated before being taken into custody.
The second incident unfolded in Shantipalli Basti under Shahid Nagar Police Station during Holi celebrations. A scuffle between Gopi Guni, a 25-year-old labourer, and the accused—Bana Guni, Pinku Guni, and a juvenile—turned deadly when Gopi was fatally stabbed.
The accused fled the scene but were later apprehended. Bana Guni and the juvenile have been taken into custody, with legal proceedings underway. Pinku Guni, who has a history of violent behaviour, remains at large.
Both cases highlight the urgent need for addressing underlying issues such as alcohol-fueled violence and the recurrence of criminal behavior.
The Commissionerate police have assured the public of their commitment to maintaining law and order, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
