Two Public Servants in Odisha Convicted in Corruption Cases

Pharmacist and Retired Junior Engineer Face Imprisonment and Penalties in Bribery and Disproportionate Assets Cases

Odisha Vigilance today secured convictions in two separate cases involving public servants in Sundargarh and Ganjam districts.


In the first case, Sanat Kumar Mohanty, a former pharmacist at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Gurundia and currently serving at Khairtola PHC under Hatibari CHC, Sundargarh, was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe. Mohanty had solicited illegal payments from a complainant, promising better medicines for the complainant’s mother. Charged under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, he was sentenced by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh, to two years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000. Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance plans to seek Mohanty’s dismissal from service by approaching the competent authority.

In a parallel development, Pramod Chandra Senapati, a retired Junior Engineer (JE) from the Minor Irrigation Department in Digapahandi, Ganjam, was convicted for possessing disproportionate assets. Senapati, charged under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was sentenced by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur, to two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000. Odisha Vigilance will now move to stop Senapati’s pension, further penalising his misconduct.
