Jharsuguda’s Brajrajnagar police successfully arrested two notorious criminals during a targeted operation based on intelligence inputs.
The accused are Akshay Namdeo (27) from Oriya Colony near Orient Colliery and Swapna Rohidas (32) from Lamti Bahal under Brajrajnagar police limits.
Police seized a 7.6 mm country-made pistol from Akshay and a large sharp knife from Swapna. Both were produced in court today, confirmed SDPO Chintamani Pradhan.
According to police sources, Brajrajnagar police received a tip-off about illegal arms dealings involving a known offender. Acting swiftly, a team led by SI M. Panigrahi detained two suspicious individuals near Orient Paper Mill Colony. Upon questioning, they revealed their identities and addresses.
During a personal search, officers recovered the pistol from Akshay and the knife from Swapna. Further interrogation confirmed the weapons were illegal. A case was registered, and both were formally arrested.
Akshay has a criminal history with 4 cases in Brajrajnagar and 10 in Orient police station. Swapna has 1 case in Brajrajnagar, 2 in Lakhanpur, and 1 in Banharpali police station.
This operation highlights the police’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms activity and maintain public safety in the region.
