In a major breakthrough in the sensational Rs 11.55 crore jewellery heist at Sai Sonu Alankar shop in Chhanagiri, Odisha police have apprehended two more accused, bringing the total number of arrests to six.

The robbery, which occurred on August 24, involved eight helmet-clad assailants who arrived on four bikes, hurled bombs, and looted gold and silver ornaments at gunpoint.

The FIR, lodged by shop owner Arundhuti Sahu, detailed how the gang threatened and assaulted staff before fleeing with 11.5 kg of gold and 5 kg of silver. The case was registered under Jankia PS Case No. 297/2025 under sections of the BNS, Arms Act, and Explosives Act.

Following intensive investigation, police identified a 10-member gang. Two accused—one from Purighat, Cuttack and another from Kanas, Puri—were arrested in the latest operation. The raids led to the recovery of:

  • Gold: 1,013 grams (latest), totaling 1,913 grams
  • Silver: 2,231 grams (latest), totaling 4,594 grams
  • Weapons: A country-made gun, live ammunition, and a bhujali
  • Cash: Rs 9.45 lakh (from earlier arrests)

The operation was led by DIG Central Range Dr. Satyajit Naik, SP Khordha Shri Vivekanand Sharma, and Addl. SP Shri Srinibas Mohanty. Officers from Khordha, Cuttack UPD, and Puri districts participated, including SDPOs and IICs from multiple police stations.

Police continue to pursue the remaining accused and have vowed to recover the full stolen amount. The case highlights the coordinated efforts of Odisha’s law enforcement in tackling organized crime.
