A quiet day turned into tragedy on Saturday as two minors were swept away by strong currents while bathing in the Subarnarekha River near Rajpur, under the Jaleswar block of Odisha’s Baleshwar district.
According to preliminary reports, the two youngsters had gone to the riverbanks to take a bath. However, they were suddenly overwhelmed by the swift river current and lost their footing, drifting into deep water within moments.
Witnesses on the bank raised an immediate alarm, drawing nearby villagers to the spot. Local residents rushed into the water to attempt a rescue, but the strong flow hindered their initial efforts.
Upon receiving information, teams from the Fire Services department, along with local police, hurried to the scene to launch a full-scale search and rescue operation. Fire personnel, assisted by local divers and villagers, are actively searching downstream to locate the missing minors.
As news of the incident spread, a wave of grief and anxiety gripped the local community in Rajpur.
