A powerful explosion at an oxygen cylinder manufacturing plant in Mohali’s Industrial Area, Phase-9, on Wednesday morning claimed two lives and left three others critically injured.
The blast, which occurred around mid-morning, sent shockwaves through the locality, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. Senior police and civil administration officials, including the sub-divisional magistrate, rushed to the scene to supervise rescue operations and assess the damage.
The injured were quickly transported to the Civil Hospital in Mohali, where they remain in critical condition under close medical observation. Authorities have cordoned off the site to ensure safety while investigations continue.
Preliminary reports indicate that the cause of the explosion is still unknown. Forensic experts and technical teams are expected to examine the site to determine whether a technical fault, mishandling of equipment, or other factors triggered the blast.
Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion followed by plumes of smoke rising from the factory premises. The incident has raised fresh concerns over industrial safety protocols in densely populated industrial hubs.
