Tragedy struck at the Mahanadi River near the Jobra Barrage on Thursday afternoon, as two young individuals lost their lives to drowning, while another was rescued safely.
The deceased, Sai Behera (14) and Pinkun Jena (22), were residents of Nadikulasahi.
Sai, Pinkun, and several others had gone to the river for bathing when the three children accidentally slipped into the deeper parts of the water. Despite desperate attempts to stay afloat and reach the shore, Sai and Pinkun could not survive.
Residents alerted the fire services, who managed to rescue all three and rushed them to the hospital. Unfortunately, the medical team declared Sai and Pinkun dead upon arrival.
