US President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day extension to the suspension of steep tariffs on Chinese goods, pushing the deadline to November 10, 2025.
The move comes just hours before the existing US-China trade truce was set to expire.
“I have just signed an Executive Order that will extend the Tariff Suspension on China for another 90 days,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
The White House cited persistent US trade deficits with China as a “serious threat” to national security and the economy, while also noting that Beijing has made “significant steps” toward addressing US concerns. The decision follows ongoing discussions aimed at improving trade reciprocity between the two nations.
The tariff dispute, which began earlier this year, saw both countries impose multiple rounds of retaliatory duties, at times exceeding 100% on each other’s goods. In May, Washington and Beijing agreed to a temporary truce, slashing tariffs and pledging to continue negotiations.
The latest extension signals a continued pause in escalation, although no long-term settlement has been reached. Talks are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
