A severe road accident occurred near Nuabhuin village under Deogarh police limits on National Highway 49 on Monday.
A passenger bus named “Hota,” travelling from Deogarh to Kuchinda, was hit from behind by a truck, leaving 23 passengers injured, with 10 critically wounded.
The critically injured individuals were immediately transferred to Burla Medical College, while others are receiving treatment at the Deogarh District Headquarters Hospital. Upon receiving the news, District Collector Kabindra Kumar Sahoo, Sub Collector Parakshit Sahoo, and Transport Officer Keshab Chandra Nayak rushed to the hospital to oversee the situation and ensure proper medical assistance.
Local MLA Romanch Ranjan Biswal, along with his team, actively assisted in transporting the injured to ambulances. Deogarh Municipality Chairman Prajit Bhoj also arrived at the hospital to provide support to the victims.
Medical teams, led by Dr. Manoranjan Samal, worked tirelessly to treat the injured, with over five doctors attending to the victims. Some passengers had their legs trapped under the wreckage, requiring firefighters to cut through metal to rescue them.
The Deogarh police have seized both the bus and the truck involved in the accident, while regional transport authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident. District Collector Kabindra Sahoo has directed that all critically injured passengers receive free medical treatment.
