The Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi, chaired by President Sri Madhav Kaushik, announced the winners of the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2024.

A total of 22 translated works have been selected for the prestigious honor, showcasing excellence in literary translation across multiple Indian languages.

The selected works include translations of novels, poetry, drama, and philosophy that were originally published between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2022. The prize for Sanskrit translations will be announced later, while no award has been declared for Urdu this year.

The prize carries a reward of ₹50,000 along with a copper plaque and will be presented at a special ceremony later this year. Notable winners include the Odia translation of Ruskin Bond’s autobiography Lone Fox Dancing and the Maithili translation of Bhibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyaya’s classic novel Aaranyak.

This year’s winners reflect the diversity and vibrancy of India’s literary traditions, celebrating the art of bridging linguistic boundaries. The Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize continues to uphold its commitment to recognizing outstanding contributions in the field of translation.
