A heart-wrenching incident has rocked Khordha district after the body of a young man, Ramchandra Jena, was found near the railway tracks close to Dhauli station on Saturday morning.
The deceased, a resident of Kumarabasta village under the jurisdiction of Industrial Area Police Station, is suspected to have died by suicide after allegedly enduring emotional and mental harassment from his wife.
According to preliminary findings by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Ramchandra is believed to have jumped in front of a moving train. What has shocked authorities and the community alike is a disturbing video he shared on social media just before taking the extreme step.
In the video, Ramchandra is seen narrating his emotional anguish, claiming constant threats of divorce and harassment by his wife, which had deeply affected both him and his family.
“They didn’t keep their promise. Later, they told my wife to create trouble at home. She threatened divorce and harassed my family. I can’t bear this pain anymore,” he said in the video.
Neighbours described Ramchandra as a soft-spoken and responsible man, expressing disbelief over his sudden and tragic demise.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem to determine the exact cause and time of death. Authorities have also seized the video for investigation and are closely examining the allegations of domestic abuse.
Officials stated that if the claims of harassment are substantiated, appropriate legal action will follow.
The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for mental health awareness, timely emotional support, and stronger mechanisms to address domestic conflicts—irrespective of gender.
