Security forces neutralised a high-ranking Maoist, Sodi Kanna, during a fierce encounter in the National Park area of Bijapur district.

Sodi Kanna, who served as the Deputy Commander of PLGA Battalion No. 01, Company 02, carried a reward of ₹8 lakh. Intelligence-led surveillance allowed security forces to track his movement through dense forest terrain, culminating in a well-coordinated offensive.

💥 Operation Details

The anti-insurgency operation was a joint effort between the DRG units of Bijapur and Dantewada, the Special Task Force (STF), CoBRA teams 202 and 210, and the CRPF’s Young Platoon. The offensive, launched with precision in the early hours, led to a brief but intense exchange of fire in the core Maoist zone.

🧾 Recoveries from the Encounter Site

  • A .303 rifle
  • Explosive materials
  • Documents and materials linked to Maoist activities

Security forces confirmed Kanna’s identity based on recovered documents and field verification. Sources suggest he had been instrumental in multiple ambushes and attacks targeting security personnel over the last decade.

👥 Continuing Vigilance

Officials stated that combing operations are underway in nearby areas to flush out remaining cadres. The successful neutralisation of Kanna is expected to disrupt Maoist operations in the Bastar region, long plagued by insurgent violence.

This marks another significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to secure peace in central India’s conflict zones.
