A tragic accident in Sundargarh town claimed the life of a two-year-old child after a tractor allegedly driven by a drunk sanitation worker ran over him on Monday.
The incident occurred near the Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple, in front of the Kunal Transport Office, under the Sundargarh Town Police Station. Reports said the child was travelling with his father on a scooter when the vehicle collided with another motorcycle. The impact threw the child onto the road.
At that moment, a tractor engaged in municipal sanitation work approached from behind and crushed the child. Family members rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The accident triggered outrage among locals, who gathered at the spot and expressed strong resentment. Police intervened quickly, brought the situation under control, and assured action.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the tractor was officially deployed for cleaning operations under the Sundargarh Municipality. Investigators also found that the driver was intoxicated during the accident and that the tractor lacked valid insurance.
Police have launched a detailed probe into the case. Officials confirmed that further legal action will follow based on the findings.
