A highway truck went on a deadly rampage late last night, causing multiple accidents in Bhubaneswar’s Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan route.
Around 3 a.m., the speeding truck struck a bike near the Chandrasekharpur petrol pump, injuring three young men. Shortly after, it ran over a cow and a bull near Shikharachandi Chhak before crashing into an electric pole. The victims were rushed to Capital Hospital, but two succumbed to their injuries, while the third was shifted to SCB Medical College in Cuttack, where he later passed away.
Police from Chandrasekharpur launched a chase and managed to detain the driver with help from locals. The Infocity police seized the truck (OD02U5779), and interrogation is underway.
Locals have blamed unrestricted and high-speed transportation of construction materials despite the ongoing mining and sand transport bans in the region. They are demanding strict administrative oversight and enforcement of highway speed limits during banned hours to prevent such tragedies.
This incident underscores the need for immediate reforms in traffic surveillance and stricter adherence to transport regulations in urban Odisha.
