A horrific accident near Dimirimunda Chhak under Jamankira police station in Sambalpur district claimed three lives on Monday.
A speeding container truck (UP 86 T 3725) collided head-on with a Yamaha MT-15 bike (OD 15 AE 0245). The impact crushed the bike under the truck’s wheels, sparking a fire that engulfed both vehicles.
Police and fire officials rushed to the spot, doused the flames, and shifted the victims to Kuchinda hospital. Doctors declared them dead on arrival. The deceased were identified as Ranbrit Singh of Vishal Pali village, Bulu Rana, and Sujit Langa of Patrapali village.
The accident triggered tension at the site, with villagers blocking the National Highway from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., demanding permanent solutions to recurring accidents. Traffic came to a standstill until senior officials, including Jamankira Tahsildar Praveena Bilung, Kuchinda SDPO Pradeep Kumar Dash, and RTO representatives, reached the spot to pacify the crowd.
Authorities assured compensation to the victims’ families and promised long-term safety measures on the highway. After assurances, police removed the burnt container and restored traffic flow.
