The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and independent weather experts have forecast the formation of three low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal between September 23 and 30, raising the possibility of intense to extremely heavy rainfall across Odisha.
According to reports, the systems may intensify into depressions or cyclonic storms due to the influence of La Niña conditions, with further escalation expected into October.
The first low-pressure system is likely to form around September 25, with a projected track toward Andhra Pradesh or Odisha coast, triggering heavy rainfall in coastal districts. The IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings for multiple districts, anticipating thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
Between September 11 and 25, Odisha and neighboring states have already experienced frequent thunderstorms and rainfall. The upcoming systems are expected to prolong the wet spell, potentially impacting agriculture, transportation, and daily life.
Authorities have urged residents, especially in low-lying and coastal areas, to stay alert and follow official advisories. Disaster response teams are being mobilized, and district administrations are preparing for possible flood-like situations.
